The history of GEA Niro Soavi North America

The company was established by Mr. Bruno Soavi in 1947, in Parma - Italy, to produce butter making machines. A few years later it started to produce high pressure homogenizers and became "Soavi Bruno e Figli S.p.A." with the association of the two sons of the founder, Adriano and Franco.

Already in the 60s the company became a leading designer and manufacturer of high pressure homogenizers and pumps extending its market from Italy to Spain, France, Germany and other European countries.

In 1990 the company was sold to the Danish group Niro Atomizers and the name was changed to "Niro Soavi S.p.A.", even though the homogenizers and the atomizers were kept as two separate businesses.

Niro Soavi business worldwide was taken care of by the local Niro organization in the different countries, and this is how the company products became part of the Niro Inc. portfolio in the States.

In 1993 the Niro Group became part of the GEA Group, and so did Westfalia Separator and Tuchenhagen. By GEA management decision, Niro Soavi was taken out of the Niro responsibility and handed over to the Westfalia sales offices worldwide. In the US, Niro Soavi was represented by Westfalia from Jan. 1996 to April 1998.

Further reorganization within the GEA Group caused Niro Soavi to move out of the P division and into the C (Process Equipment) division. In 2008 Niro Soavi changed name to GEA Niro Soavi North America and is now located in Bedford, NH where it operates as an independently of the rest of the GEA Group . although strong ties remain between GEA Niro Soavi and GEA Process Engineering Inc. (formerly known as Niro Inc.).
